Visit Toulon
your way!

Never been to Toulon? Your next camping vacation in the Var will be the perfect opportunity to make up for it! Located just 8 km from the campsite, Toulon can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whichever way you choose to spend your holiday in south-east France, you’ll find plenty to do in Toulon to suit your tastes and preferences.

Toulon nature

Toulon offers a wide range of walks. One of the most striking is undoubtedly the sentier du Littoral. From Fort Saint-Louis to Tour-Royale, you can walk along the sea and the beaches of La Mitre. You’ll enjoy an impressive panorama of the coves and the Mediterranean Sea. A must for hiking enthusiasts. Another of the city’s star attractions: the Monts Toulonnais! These are the famous hills overlooking the town, the best known of which is Mont Faron (584 m), made accessible by cable car.
A great way to get a bird’s eye view of Toulon! For those prone to vertigo, a detour by car is possible to reach the site. Whichever means of transport you use, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Toulon’s harbor. There’s plenty to do, from walking the marked trails to visiting the Faron zoo or the Mémorial du débarquement et de la libération de Provence. And why not do all this at once and treat yourself to a picnic on an aire to prolong this moment at altitude?

Toulon culture

Toulon is also a cultural center, with the Musée National de la Marine and its magnificent models. If you’ve already enjoyed your visit, you can expand your knowledge by taking a boat trip to Toulon’s military port. This is home to the famous aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, which was recently renovated. Other equally interesting museums can punctuate your visit to the capital of the Var. These include the Hôtel des Arts, with its permanent and temporary collections, and the Musée des Arts Asiatiques, if you’re looking for a change of continent. Good to know: both art museums are free and closed on Mondays. Music also has pride of place in Toulon, especially during the summer months with Rockorama (a free festival from June 28 to 30) and the Jazz à Toulon Festival (from July 19 to 28), which features free concerts by young local talent as well as big-name jazz stars.

Toulon farniente

Finally, a visit to Toulon is obviously an opportunity to enjoy the beaches of Mourillon, its green spaces and playgrounds. A moment of relaxation by the sea is part of a successful vacation in the Var! If you’re looking for something a little wilder and shadier, Plage de la Mitre is an excellent spot, well known to the locals. The little beach at Pipady is equally charming. If you’d like to return to terra firma, a stroll through the city center will give you a better idea of Toulon’s heritage. Don’t hesitate to visit the Cours Lafayette market (open every day except Monday), the ideal place to stock up on foodstuffs. With its mix of flavors and colors, this great Provencal market has everything to charm you. In fact, it was the inspiration for Gilbert Bécaud’s song “Les marchés de Provence”. You’ll easily find plenty of fresh produce to take back to the campsite and cook to your heart’s content!
